Chen Wei 

Director and Professor of Beijing Institute of Biotechnology, member of the 13th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC). Her research primarily focuses on vaccines and drugs development against different pathogens, including Bacillus anthracis, SARS-CoV, Ebola virus, Zika virus, etc. During the 2014–2015 Ebola outbreak in West Africa, the Ad5-EBOV vaccine developed by Chen’s lab found safe and immunogenic in clinical trials conducted in China and Sierra Leone, and the research results were published in The Lancet and The Lancet Global Health. The vaccine was approved by China Food and Drug Administration (CFDA) in Oct 2017. 

Chen has obtained various awards for her achievements, including the second prize of National Technology Invention Award as first inventor, the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, the Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress of Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation, CAST Qiu Shi Outstanding Young Researcher Award, L’Oréal-UNESCO for Women in Science China fellowship, the candidate of National Hundred-Thousand-Ten Thousand Talents Project and the leading figure of National High-level Personnel Special Program.
